What is IKIGAI?
Ikigai (pronounced ee-key-guy) is a Japanese concept that combines 2 words: “iki” which means life and “gai” which means “purpose”. It is similar to the French concept “Raison d’être” or reason for being and basically refers to having a reason to get up in the morning… This can be achieved by finding and living your true purpose. Ikigai is not a destination, but rather a way of life, a journey. Therefore, the benefits of pursuing your ikigai are limitless.
Ikigai Westernised
The Westernised version of Ikigai is based on the idea there are four components one needs to complete in order to achieve ikigai.
These four components are represented by the four questions:
-Are you doing something that you love?
-That the world needs?
-That you are good at?
-And that you can be paid for?

This exercise recognizes the exploration and understanding of their personal ikigai.
Through self-reflection, think about the authentic Japanese concept of ikigai, moving beyond common Western misconceptions (for Japanese people and as is difficult sometimes to achieve the four points, but you might still feel you are in your ikigai zone). The process involves self-reflection, collaborative discussions, and the creation of a personal visual representation, culminating in a deeper appreciation of life's value and purpose.
