The earner of this badge took part in the “The Forum Five” workshop during the Cities of Learning Youth Forum and gained knowledge about: appreciative inquiry method, policy recommendation creation and co-created the future learning, civic and career pathways.
In this activity you will be familiarized with the concept of Appreciative Inquiry. The main question to ask yourself is “WHAT IS GOOD AND CAN EVEN BE BETTER?”. You will be encouraged not to look at the problems and what your city or region of learning is (still) lacking, but asked to look towards what is working and we need even more of it.
You will be led through 4 stages of the method:
STEP 1: DISCOVERY - The best of what it is?
This is the phase where you should focus on what is functioning well in your communities or wider on the European level. Also think of needed conditions in order to have this good practices on a larger scale. Ask yourself:
What is good and can be even better? (good practices)
What gives life? (needed conditions)
STEP 2: DREAM - What could be?
At this phase you should enter dream land and imagine possible futures for what was listed in the Discovery phase. If there are no limitations, what would be your wishes. Ask yourself:
Imagine what could be, if there were no limitations? (wishes)
What are your suggestions for change? (concrete suggestions)
STEP 3: DESIGN - What should be?
In this phase, get as strategic and tactical as possible, think of models and prototypes of different elements of your future, map steps, and identify required resources. Ask yourself:
What are the main common sub-topics you see?
What steps are needed today to reach this vision?
STEP 4: DESTINY - What will be?
In this step, you will take the AI method and bring it to Youth Forum of Cities of Learning. This will be our first attempt to make concrete suggestions for policy recommendations within the five chosen topics. Ask yourself:
How can we write this more concretely?
What is the goal (change) we want to achieve?
