Intuitive expression

Intuitive theatre

This activity offers improvisation and playful intuitive work with self expression as a individual or a group. There can be a script but also it can be done just by pure improvisation, but with the starting input information.
This activity offers a great tool to work with group dynamics, with role exchange, expression, release of tension and work with the relationships. With director guidance there is a story built and with creativity of participants the outcome is different every time. But it can be useful when some problematic topic will appear, to work on it through playful work.

Starting guidance
Take a role of director. Choose a topic (depends on the group needs - if there is some current topic that group need to work on, or there is just a need to make an atmosphere to freely express yourself and release emotions) and explain your group what they can expect. If the "play" will be about some specific event, situation , about some specific personas etc..
On your preference, choose from following topics and be creative with them:

1. Apocalypse - The world is ending. Without making plans forward, during the game players will develop how an apocalypse can look like. What will be the atmosphere, if someone will survive and how, what is the cause of it and what are the outcomes.
2. Corporate dramas - Just a casual day in a corporate company. Without speaking before game, let the players develop the atmosphere and look of this company, what does it sell or work with? What is the hierarchy? Who is who? What is the drama?
3. Creation of the world - Once upon a time, there was nothing and suddenly there was everything. Let the players imitate and develop this process during their play. Who is the creator? Is there even any? Where is it happening and how? What is the outcome? What is the process?
4. Crime scene - Something terrible hapend. There are police officers and...? Who is victim? What happend actualy? Is there some danger? What are the outcomes?
5. Family dinner - Casual dinner of non casual family. Let the players choose their roles and without telling anybody they have to express them during a "dinner". Is there any drama? Are there some secrets? What are the relationships?
6. Improvisation without the topic - Let the players develop a scene and topic during their improvisation .
7. Topic on your own preference

When you choose, start a little guided movement meditation to help people to get comfortable and relaxe. You can play ambient music, tell them to close eyes and move how they feel. You can navigate them to specific movements, as for example imitation of some animals, imitation of water/fire/air etc.
You can also add some icebreaker if needed.
And at the end of starting guidance, make 5 minutes mindfulness relaxation meditation to calm down before the play.

The Play
Start with naming the scenario and let people express and be playful with it. Choose a music which matches the atmosphere.Try to interfere into their actions as less as possible. When is the scenario set and people know what they should do, let the play begin. But be consciouss. If there will be the need to help the process, or players will be stucked, come with sudden change in scenario/situation/music. Tell them what suddenly hapend. One play shouldnt last more then 20 minutes. Take a breaks between them to reflect (Next task) And choose how many plays you want. After any play let every one have a chance to take a rest if needed.
There is a change of subconscious emotional release, so make players aware they can take a break if needed.

Reflection
After every play, play ambient music, make a circle and give space for reflection. Ask the players how they felt, what emotions they experienced and if they identified with their roles and how. Make a space for emotional reflection if needed. At the end play some game to ground the players and cleanse from the play.
