Resilience Builder

What Makes You Happy and Satisfied? Is Your Happiness Built on a Stable Foundation?
To reflect on this question, specialist doctor Mirriam Priess developed the Beetle Model.

The Ladybug Resilience Model is a visual tool that helps us understand and strengthen our personal resilience.
All these areas contribute to happiness and life satisfaction.
Ideally, we nurture all these areas. They serve as sources of happiness and strengthen our mental resilience.


If we neglect certain areas, the importance of the remaining "legs" increases. A crisis can further shake the beetle—another area may start to wobble. While some instability can still be balanced, each new challenge increases the risk of collapse.

Using the Beetle Model to Build Resilience and Inner Strength Dr. Priess recommends assessing all areas of life:
Does your life align with your values and expectations? Are all areas equally cared for, or do some require more attention?

Beware of relying too much on a single area that covers multiple legs. If that area is lost, stability is at serious risk (e.g., if your job is also your only hobby or if your partner is your only close friend).

1️⃣ Career: Do you enjoy your work? What makes it easy? What makes it difficult? What worries you? Are there conflicts?

2️⃣ Family, Partnership: Do you feel comfortable in your relationship and family? Do you enjoy coming home? Do you feel appreciated?

3️⃣ Health: Are you healthy? Do you take preventive care of your health? Do you exercise? Do you eat healthily? Do you avoid addictive substances? Do you take time to rest and recharge?

4️⃣ Social Connections: Do you maintain social contacts? Who can you share emotions with—both joy and sorrow? Who do you call when you need to talk?

5️⃣ Individuality, Hobbies: Do you take time for yourself? Do you know what makes you feel good? Do you regularly pursue hobbies?

6️⃣ Faith, Spirituality, Values: What values do you uphold? Do you live according to your values? Do you have a personal perspective on life?

When all six legs are strong, the ladybug (you!) can move forward steadily. But if one leg is weak or missing, the others must compensate to maintain balance.

1️⃣ Draw Your Own Ladybug: Take a piece of paper and sketch your personal resilience ladybug with its six legs.

2️⃣ Assess Your Balance: Which legs feel strong right now? Is there a leg that feels weak or missing?

3️⃣ Compensating for Weaknesses: If one leg is struggling, can another support or balance it out?

4️⃣ Inner Dialogue: Are you actively reflecting on and engaging with these six life areas? How can you strengthen your overall resilience?
