This activity is for participants taking part in the Cities of Learning study visit for Networking and Advocating.

This session is designed for participants to engage directly with Eurodesk, a leading European network dedicated to inspiring young people to fulfill their potential by providing information on learning mobility opportunities. The purpose is to understand their extensive work in youth information, advocacy, and quality development, to mutually learn from their practices, and to explore how to strengthen pathways for young people to access international opportunities. This activity directly enhances "Networking and Advocating", "Communicating Meaningfully", and "Facilitating Learning" competence areas within the European Training Strategy (ETS) Competence Model for Youth Workers.

Why this activity? (Empowering Youth Mobility & Quality Information)
Visiting Eurodesk offers invaluable insights into a well-established European network that plays a crucial role in empowering young people through information and mobility. This is a unique opportunity to understand how a federated network of local information providers operates, how quality is ensured across countries, and how international opportunities are made accessible to diverse youth, including those from non-urban environments or NEETs. By engaging with Eurodesk's vision, tools, and campaigns, participants can identify strategies for informing and supporting young people, enhancing their own networking capabilities, and strengthening the collective advocacy for accessible learning mobility. It's a chance to learn innovative approaches to youth information work and foster concrete collaborations in the field of European youth opportunities.

About Eurodesk
Eurodesk is a European youth information network created in 1990. As a support organization to Erasmus+, Eurodesk makes information on learning mobility comprehensive and accessible to young people and those who work with them.

With a network of 38 Eurodesk Centres connected to over 3000 local information providers ("multipliers and ambassadors") in 36 European countries, Eurodesk raises awareness on European opportunities and encourages young people to become active citizens. These multipliers are regional or local organisations (like youth centres, associations, municipalities) working with young people, delivering youth information and advising on mobility. To ensure the quality of services across all countries, Eurodesk offers its members quality training and support, and access to youth information services and tools.

The network is administered by an Executive Committee (EEC), responsible for planning the organisation's direction, activities, and campaigns at both European and national levels. The EEC also plays a role in building partnerships that benefit Eurodesk. Eurodesk Brussels Link (EBL) serves as the coordinating body of the network and manages the Eurodesk brand. EBL supports the mission by facilitating internal and public communication about ongoing projects, regularly issuing publications, and initiating and coordinating European-level campaigns. EBL also provides first-hand European information on youth mobility, alongside tools for training, information management, quality assessment, and communication to Eurodesk officers in various countries. EBL further supports the European Commission in developing and maintaining the European Youth Portal.

Key offerings and initiatives
  • Free Access to Learning Mobility Information: Multipliers gain access to Eurodesk's intranet, which provides regularly updated mobility information, publications on EU youth topics, a partner search tool for project collaboration, and a platform for national and international exchange among youth professionals.
  • National Support and Regular Meetings: Each country's National Eurodesk Centre supports multipliers by providing updates on European youth mobility issues, translating information, offering communication materials, and organising national meetings and on-site visits.
  • International Training and Seminars: The Eurodesk Qualifying Training Programme equips multipliers with relevant knowledge and skills to inform, guide, and empower young people. Training modules occur nationally and internationally, including an annual international seminar for networking and partnership building.
  • Eurodesk Awards: Established in 2011, these awards celebrate the daily work of local multipliers who help young people access European opportunities. They aim to highlight best practices and introduce projects to European stakeholders, with valuable prizes for winners.
  • Eurodesk Competence Framework: This framework provides a common understanding and recognition for Eurodesk Mobility Advisors, clarifying their role in providing information about mobility opportunities.
  • YouthInfoComp - A European Competence Framework for Youth Information Workers: Developed jointly by Eurodesk and ERYICA in 2021, YouthInfoComp is the first European competence framework for youth information workers. It provides a generalist view of required competences, ensuring quality and fostering recognition for the field, defining the role of youth information workers as supporting youth well-being and enabling young people to make informed choices.
  • Time to Move Campaign: Eurodesk's flagship campaign in October informs young people about studying, volunteering, and internship opportunities abroad. It mobilizes hundreds of organizations to host thousands of events across nearly 30 countries, specifically targeting youth from non-city environments and NEETs (Not in Education, Employment, or Training).

Connecting with Cities of Learning
The connection between Eurodesk and the Cities of Learning Network is highly complementary, focusing on empowering individuals through accessible learning and opportunities:
  • Information and guidance for Learning Pathways: Eurodesk's core mission of providing detailed, high-quality information on mobility opportunities directly supports the Cities of Learning aim of connecting learners with diverse learning experiences, many of which can be recognized through Open Badges.
  • Recognition of Non-Formal Learning Outcomes: Both Eurodesk (through its competence frameworks) and Cities of Learning (through its badging system) are dedicated to recognising skills and competences acquired outside formal education. Mobility experiences fostered by Eurodesk often lead to significant non-formal learning that can be documented and validated on the Cities of Learning platform.
  • Networked approach to Empowerment: Eurodesk's vast network of local multipliers mirrors the multi-stakeholder nature of the Cities of Learning Network, emphasizing the power of distributed information and collaboration to reach young people effectively.
  • Advocacy for youth potential: Both networks advocate for young people's potential and their right to access opportunities, whether through mobility (Eurodesk) or diverse learning pathways (Cities of Learning).
  • Addressing Disadvantage: Eurodesk's focus on reaching youth from non-city environments and NEETs directly aligns with Cities of Learning's commitment to inclusion and supporting learners who are disengaged from traditional systems.
Through this visit, participants can gain practical insights into establishing and managing a wide-reaching information network, strategies for motivating young people towards mobility, and how to effectively connect information provision with competence recognition within a broader European context.

Objectives of the activity
  • To understand Eurodesk's mission, network structure, and the array of services and tools they provide to local youth information multipliers, including the roles of the EEC and EBL.
  • To explore the significance of the Eurodesk Competence Framework and YouthInfoComp in professionalising youth information work.
  • To learn about effective communication and outreach strategies used by Eurodesk, particularly the "Time to Move" campaign, to reach diverse young people.
  • To identify potential synergies and opportunities for cooperation between Cities of Learning initiatives and Eurodesk's network, especially concerning mobility information and competence recognition.
  • To understand how Eurodesk advocates for quality youth information and learning mobility at a European level.
