What makes a powerful story? How to gain publicity? What can we do to achieve impact through the things we share?
During this workshop, you will unlearn a lot of things. While answering the questions above, we will together analyze how traditional approaches to social media that are focused on presenting success, might not be the best option for NGOs and activists. Instead, we will concentrate on building narrations that are powerful because they show the other side of things: individual stories that are focused on change, and perspectives that are often overlooked by mainstream media. You will learn how to show the way (which sometimes can be a struggle) and not only the final results.
About the trainer:
Kasia Kowalska is a co-founder and vice-president of Upstream Stories – an international NGO that aims at promoting participatory media methods for supporting people at risk. Kasia is a trainer and educator with more than 10 years of experience in supporting civil society development in the countries of the former communist bloc. She lived and worked for NGOs in Poland, Romania, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, and Georgia. In her work she focuses on exploring how filmmaking and photography can help people create and share personal stories to present their own, unique perspectives, creating narrations that are an alternative to the stories presented in the mainstream media.
