This study visit is an opportunity for partners from Turin Metropolitan City (Italy), Cities of Learning in the Netherlands, Vilnius (Lithuania), Cluj-Napoca (Romania) and and Blackpool City (United Kingdom) to meet, exchange and learn from each other about 21st-century skills education and recognition.

Why should you join?

  • Share needs, interest and realities of young people included in the city-level strategy for Cities of Learning focused on 21st century skills development
  • Familiarise with the concept and good practices of 21st century skills development and inclusion through meetings and visits to partner organisations of Vilnius City of Learning
  • Test technical developments of Mobile App for Cities of Learning and give feedback on how to better improve user experience
  • Consult local learning providers on how to design learning pathways and promote them to young people in the city


What should you expect?

  • Participants and partners of this project will develop understanding of the needs, interests and realities of young people in participating cities of Europe.
  • Partners having experience with Cities of Learning will share their know-how on 21st century skills development and inclusion and best practices of designing and delivering learning pathways.
  • Staff members will learn how to design learning pathways using playlists methodology and will develop first prototypes of such educational opportunities.
  • Participants will get familiar with the functionality of Cities of Learning platform and test and give feedback on using Mobile App for Cities of Learning.
  • Partners will prepare to deliver intellectual output of learning pathways and work locally, consulting other learning providers and promoting these new opportunities to young people.

This study visit is a part of a Cities of Learning study visit organised during 16 to 21 May 2022 in Vilnius, Lithuania. The study visit is realised within the Erasmus+ co-funded strategic partnership "Online 21st century skills education".

Content

What is the significance of the maker movement for 21st-century skills development? What do maker culture and non-formal learning have in common? What is the added value of maker activities for established non-formal education practice? How does one get started?

You will visit the Makerspace PATS SAU established at the National M. Mazvydas library where visitors can create, discover, preserve, be curious, achieve, recognise, record.

In this maker space visitors will find over two dozen well-equipped individual workstations, 3D printer, vinyl and thermofilm cutter, thermal press, mini sublimation printer, robotics and electronics kits, programming microcomputers, computers with the necessary software and various materials to realise your ideas. If tired or waiting for your industrious workers, enjoy the relaxation and reading space.

The staff members of this maker space gave a tour around their place and shared their methodology with Cities of Learning partners in Vilnius (Lithuania), the Netherlands, Lagos (Nigeria), Eastern-Cape region in South Africa.
